When young people face intense emotional, behavioral, or mental health challenges, they need more than temporary help—they need a supportive bridge to stability.

Program Details

Charlton Hall is an 8-bed, home-like treatment program for youth aged 12–15, offering specialized care, structure, and hope during challenging times.

  • The care and treatment needs of youth are addressed on a twenty-four (24) hour basis through flexible and individualized treatment plans.

These plans are developed and implemented by a treatment team, which includes the youth, their family, our professional staff drawn from Child and Youth Workers, Social Workers, and other involved service providers.

Each treatment plan will also include an individualized crisis management plan to prevent and mitigate risk, and to promote more effective coping for the youth and their family.

  • We will support youth to attend their current school placement, or will work with them to explore school options, if that is a goal.

A Compass School (the on-site Day Treatment classroom which is a separate program) staff can be available to consult regarding school options and plans.

  • Staffing ratios include a minimum of two staff during daytime school hours, three staff through the after school /evening period, and two staff overnight.

Specialized community and mental health services are used to the fullest extent with an emphasis on coordinated treatment planning with families, case managers and external service providers.

  • The team can call on an array of clinical resources, including a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, Occupational Therapist, FASD consultant, Clinical Assessments and Measures, and Complex Needs consultant.

Who We Help

  • Youth struggling with mental health, trauma, or behavioural issues that make home life unsafe or unstable.

  • Teens referred through Access and System Navigation (ASN)—Hamilton’s central hub for youth mental health services.

What Makes Charlton Hall Unique

  • Therapeutic Environment: A balance of structure + flexibility, with 24/7 staff support.

  • Personalized care: An individual treatment plan (including crisis management, school support, and family counselling) is developed for each youth.

  • Clinical Expertise: Occupational therapy and FASD specialists.

  • School Integration: We support youth to remain connected to their educational programs, and/or support youth to transition to educational programs that are better suited to meet the needs of individual youth.

Healing isn’t linear. At Charlton Hall, we meet youth where they are—with consistency, compassion, and a plan tailored to their strengths.

Our ultimate goal? To empower each youth with the skills, confidence and support they need to thrive—whether that means reuniting with family, stepping down to community-based care, or embracing independent living with newfound resilience. At Charlton Hall, we don't just stabilize—we help young people rebuild their foundation for a brighter future.
