Healing from sexual harm is possible.

Healing from sexual harm is possible—and no one should have to navigate that path alone. We’re here to walk alongside you, offering support and guidance every step of the way.

When a child or youth experiences sexual harm, families and caregivers often struggle with complex emotions, including how and why the situation could have occurred. Understanding the nature of sexual harm—including how it happens, how young people may communicate about it, and how to respond with support—is a vital part of the healing process for the entire family.

The SAAT Program at Lynwood Charlton Centre provides free, specialized mental health support for children, youth, and their families who have experienced sexual harm or have demonstrated inappropriate sexual behaviours. Our goal is to help families reclaim their sense of safety, strength, and hope for the future.

About the Program

Who We Support

The SAAT Program provides specialized, trauma-informed therapy for children and youth (up to age 18) who’ve experienced sexual harm OR exhibit concerning sexual behaviors, specifically:

  • Children/youth who’ve experienced sexual harm (confused, angry, or struggling with trauma).

  • Kids under 12 with concerning inappropriate sexual behaviours (helping them and their families navigate challenges).

  • Youth involved in intra-familial sexual harm (supporting healing for all affected).

Why Healing Matters

Sexual harm can leave kids feeling isolated, angry, or stuck—but with the right care, they can:

  • Process trauma in a safe, judgment-free space.

  • Rebuild trust and learn healthy coping skills.

  • Recognize safety and nurture positive relationships.

How We Help

  • One-on-one therapy tailored to specific needs for trauma, anxiety, and more.

  • Information and education about the nature and impact of sexual harm verses healthy relationships and sexuality.

  • A safe and comfortable space to discuss sexual harm and identify and express associated feelings (i.e. anger, guilt).

  • Age-appropriate methods to manage feelings in a constructive way.

  • Enhancing knowledge of personal safety, and the ability to recognize and respond to situations that may be abusive, exploitative, or unsafe.

  • Family support to address problematic behaviours and strengthen bonds.

Healing doesn’t mean we need to forget what happened. It means that we no longer have to be controlled by it.”

How to Access Services

The SAAT Program is for children and youth who have disclosed experienced sexual harm or have demonstrated inappropriate sexual behaviour with other children.

For those families that are looking for support for intra-familial sexual harm, verification from Hamilton Child and Family Supports or The Catholic Children’s Aid Society of Hamilton is required.
