Lynwood Charlton Centre is Hamilton’s Lead Agency for child and youth mental health, providing transformative care through community, residential, and treatment services. We empower young people (prenatal to age 25) and their families with equitable, accessible programs—from counselling and crisis support to skill-building and advocacy. Guided by compassion and evidence, we collaborate with 7 core partners to strengthen mental health across our diverse community. 

Through our Lead Agency role, we are responsible for leading and facilitating system reform in Hamilton. To do this, we work collaboratively with other child and youth mental health service providers, other affiliated community partners including our child welfare, health, and school board partners, and parents and youth engaged in our services.

We are currently looking for temporary full-time Youth and Family Engagement Lead to join our team.

ROLE OVERVIEW

Working under the direction of the Senior Director, Programs Operations & Systems Planning, the Youth and Family Engagement Lead works as a team to provide oversight, planning and coordination of youth and family engagement activities as part of the Lead Agency team.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Will provide oversight, planning and coordination of youth and family engagement activities to inform and improve the system of child and youth mental health services. This will occur through engagement of youth and other families, sharing of own lived experience, working with service providers, and the integration of available evidence and information.

  • Plan, implement, and evaluate programs and activities that promote youth and family engagement

  • Advocate for the needs of youth and families within the system and community.

  • Assist families in identifying strengths and areas for support.

  • Will collaborate with the Senior Director of Program Operations and System Planning on priority areas and work group activities, deliverables and deadlines, including the development and preparation of agency and community processes.

  • Will facilitate meetings and processes and attend meetings as a representative of the lead agency team, as needed.

  • Administrative duties include but not limited to scheduling, room bookings, set-up for meetings and processes, and administrative responsibilities associated with honorariums and invoices.

  • Will meet with the Senior Director of Program Operations and System Planning regularly for supervision and work planning and will communicate activities on a regular basis.

  • Attend, participate and provide input at team meetings

  • Contribute to the development, implementation and evaluation of lead agency responsibilities

  • Contribute to effective team development and processes to promote team cohesion and communication

  • Other duties as assigned

EXPERIENCE / SKILLS AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Several years of experience with engagement, facilitation and planning

  • Experience within a not-for-profit setting preferred

  • Experience working with a variety of stakeholders

  • Lived experience with the child and youth mental health services

  • Knowledge of engagement principles, literature and frameworks

  • Knowledge of child and youth mental health

  • Knowledge of facilitation approaches

EDUCATION AND TRAINING QUALIFICATIONS

  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent knowledge acquired through combination of relevant training and experience.
