Lynwood Charlton Centre is Hamilton’s Lead Agency for child and youth mental health, providing transformative care through community, residential, and treatment services. We empower young people (prenatal to age 25) and their families with equitable, accessible programs—from counselling and crisis support to skill-building and advocacy. Guided by compassion and evidence, we collaborate with 7 core partners to strengthen mental health across our diverse community. 

Through our Lead Agency role, we are responsible for leading and facilitating system reform in Hamilton. To do this, we work collaboratively with other child and youth mental health service providers, other affiliated community partners including our child welfare, health, and school board partners, and parents and youth engaged in our services.

We are currently looking for a Finance Manager to work from our Head Office in Hamilton.

ROLE OVERVIEW

The Finance Manager plays a critical role in ensuring the organization’s financial sustainability and regulatory compliance while supporting a mission-driven culture. The Finance Manager also serves as a key liaison with provincial ministries and the organization’s Board of Directors on all finance-related matters.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead and manage day-to-day operations of the accounting team, encompassing Accounts Payable (AP), Accounts Receivable (AR), the General Ledger (GL), and Payroll functions.

  • Ensure timely and accurate preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with Public Sector Accounting Standards (PSAS) or the standard approved by the Board policies.

  • Support the organization by setting the controls and procedures to adhere to Broader Public Sector (BPSA) guidelines.

  • Streamline financial workflows and optimize the use of accounting software to enhance accuracy and efficiency across all operations.

  • Coordinate the development, implementation, and monitoring of the annual operating and capital budgets, working closely with program managers to ensure fiscal responsibility and alignment with strategic goals.

  • Serve as the primary contact for both internal and external auditors, ensuring all necessary documentation is provided and findings are addressed promptly. Work with external consultant on designing and implementing the Internal Audit function and workplan.

  • Develop and implement robust financial controls and risk management functions to safeguard organizational assets and mitigate financial risks. Key staff member to support the Senior Management team and the Board in developing the Enterprise Risk Management framework.

  • Prepare and submit accurate financial reports to key stakeholders, including the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Children Community and Social Services, adhering strictly to all reporting guidelines and deadlines.

  • Prepare comprehensive financial reports and present key financial insights, performance metrics, and budget updates at Board of Directors and Finance Committee meetings.

  • Work closely with the LCC Foundation team to track restricted donations, report on fund utilization, and ensure alignment between fundraising efforts and financial reporting requirements.

  • Work with the Finance team to support the LCC Management in variance discussions and business case development for new projects.

  • Assumes responsibility for maintaining professional knowledge of accounting and payroll best practice, legislative changes and software and processing improvements.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING QUALIFICATIONS

  • University degree in a related field leading to a CPA designation such as business administration or accounting

  • A professional accounting designation is required; successful completion of the Canadian CPA (Chartered Professional Accountant) designation is mandatory.

    Experience Required

  • A minimum of 5 years of progressive financial management experience, preferably within a not-for-profit, healthcare, or social services environment.

  • Proven experience in a supervisory role, with the ability to lead, mentor, and motivate a diverse finance team.

  • High proficiency in accounting software and MS Office Suite, particularly advanced Excel skills. Understanding GL systems and Payroll systems is essential.

  • Prior experience/ exposure to systems similar to Adagio and Avanti is considered a great asset, but not necessary.
