Lynwood Charlton Centre is Hamilton’s Lead Agency for child and youth mental health, providing transformative care through community, residential, and treatment services. We empower young people (prenatal to age 25) and their families with equitable, accessible programs—from counselling and crisis support to skill-building and advocacy. Guided by compassion and evidence, we collaborate with 7 core partners to strengthen mental health across our diverse community.
Through our Lead Agency role, we are responsible for leading and facilitating system reform in Hamilton. To do this, we work collaboratively with other child and youth mental health service providers, other affiliated community partners including our child welfare, health, and school board partners, and parents and youth engaged in our services.

ABOUT THE ROLE:
We are currently looking for a Respite Worker to work from one of our locations in Hamilton.
Please note that this is an agency-wide position and Lynwood Charlton Centre reserves the right to assign the successful candidate to any location based on the needs of the program.
As a Respite Worker, you’ll provide critical support to children/youth (up to age 18) with autism, dual diagnoses, or complex mental health needs. Your goal? To prevent crisis escalation by offering safe, engaging respite in homes, communities, or at our sites—primarily during evenings and weekends.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide direct supervision while ensuring the safety of the child/youth in the planned respite program and make sure they are engaged in the skill development and treatment components of the program.
Provide support to clients with their mental health and wellbeing in each of the programs and support them in their development of life and social skills.
Maintain professional standards of practice in accordance with Lynwood Charlton Centre policies and procedures, CCA (Canadian Centre for Accreditation) standards, and relevant legislation.
Complete the respite plan with client/families, and design/develop programs geared to the goals and needs of the individual in collaboration with the partners assigned to each client.
Use of behaviour management techniques and principles to address behaviours when they arise in the community and within the program.
Ensure that all relevant documentation is completed in the CR (Client Record) in a timely manner as required and shared and updated with the relevant teams and individuals.
REQUIREMENTS:
The following education, professional memberships and knowledge are a requirement for this role:
CYW, DSW or related diploma;
1 year of direct related experience;
Knowledge and understanding of the principles of ABA; ASD, and dual diagnosis;
Awareness of the role of diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace and within the community being served by the position;
An understanding of Anti-Black Racism, anti-oppressive/anti-racism perspective in the context of the social determinants of health when working with clients and their families;
Ability to recognize and identify situations where incidents of and imbalance of power and privilege may occur and can result in possible negative impacts for the client;
Ability to travel locally.
NICE TO HAVES:
While not required, preference will be given to candidates with the following:
Though our preferred candidate is fluent in English and French, mastery of the French language is not required.
Knowledge of the cultural diversity of communities served by the agency.
Fluency in another language(s), including sign language.

Broad Records Police Check (done within four weeks of employment is required.
Up-to-date vaccinations (as per health guidelines).
