    Pheroze Jeejeebhoy is a lawyer practicing in Hamilton, Ontario. He began his tenure on the Lynwood Charlton’s Board of Directors in 2014, and is the Board’s Treasurer. As a lawyer, Pheroze has represented many injured and disabled children before the courts in Ontario. Through this advocacy, he has developed a keen awareness of the challenges facing children and their families when trying to access mental health services in Ontario, as well as an interest in ensuring the availability of appropriate services for children.

    Nancy Smith is a lawyer with Turkstra Mazza Associates in Hamilton, Ontario. She began her tenure on the Lynwood Charlton’s Board of Directors in 2014. Along with her work as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Waterloo, she is a Trustee and Choir member of Wellington Square United Church and a Hearing Simulation Coach at Society of Ontario Adjudicators and Regulators.

Karen Shaver

    Karen Shaver is currently attending York University studying for a Masters in Public Policy, Administration and Law. For the last 16 years, Karen worked as a Vice-President with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada where she provided support to over 110 member agencies, working locally to deliver mentoring services to young people. As a consultant and volunteer, she has researched, evaluated and guided the development of services to marginalized populations including youth experiencing homelessness, Indigenous Canadians and women working in the sex trade industry.

    Bonnie Easterbrook is a CPA, CGA with over 20 years of experience in the public sector and not for profit organizations as a CFO and Director of Finance. She has a keen interest in mental health and children’s issues. Bonnie has been a member of the Lynwood Charlton’s Board of Directors since 2014.

Sonia Seguin (Kumar)

  • Bio

    Sonia Seguin is the founder and owner of the Hamilton social enterprise Body Brave. Body Brave provides support and guidance to young adults struggling with body image issues and eating disorders. Sonia is also a board member of community organization Student Open Circles and is a member of the Hamilton Social Planning and Research Council, Hamilton Chamber of Commerce, and Eating Disorders Association of Canada among others. She holds a Masters in Economics and has worked in the non-profit sector at the Burlington Economic Development Corporation.

    Heather Elbard is a retired speech language pathologist and health care administrator with a passion for family and youth advocacy. She is the Past President of Children’s Mental Health Ontario and Past Co-chair of the Consumer and Advocates Network (Ottawa). Currently, she is the Board Chair for the Hanen Program and the Hamilton Family Network. She has been a member of the Lynwood Charlton Centre’s Board of Directors since 2002, and has served as President and Vice President.

Leila Ryan

    Leila Ryan has served in leadership roles on a number of health and social service boards, among them the Big Sisters’ Association, Hillfield-Strathallan College, St. Peter’s Hospital, the Hamilton-Wentworth District Health Council, Contact Hamilton and the Hamilton Community Foundation. She is a retired academic and is currently a member of the Hamilton Roundtable for Poverty Reduction and the Board of the Hamilton Family Health Team of which she is the Past-Chair.

Ghanwa Afach

    Ghanwa Afach has been employed at the Social Planning and Research Council of Hamilton since 2010, where she is actively engaged in the Hamilton Community Action Program for Children (CAPC), which provides supports for families with children aged newborn to six in east Hamilton. Her work also focuses on Health Canada’s three priorities, including Mental Health Promotion, Injury Prevention, and Healthy Weights.

    Ghanwa has also worked for the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioural Neurosciences at McMaster University where she was involved in a research investigation of the mental health functioning of children in grades 5 – 8. Ghanwa is also a member of The Mayor’s Advisory Committee on Syrian Newcomers/Community Support & Networks Working Group.

Graham Browne

    Graham Browne has over 30 years of experience in highly respected national and global enterprises in both the private and public sectors, and extensive board work in the not-for-profit sector which has allowed him to develop a strong appreciation for the principles of good governance and their practical application. Over the course of his career, Graham has held senior Human Resource and General Administration roles (managerial and executive), and is currently Principal and Owner of an independent management consulting firm.

    Graham has also been an active participant on the Boards of Directors of Skills Canada Ontario, the Hamilton Community Foundation, Mohawk College, the United Way of Burlington and Greater Hamilton (serving one term as Board Chair), Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters, Ontario Division (also as Board Chair), and the Mining Industry Human Resources Council.

  • Bio

    Dr. Ruth Pickering is a retired Child Psychiatrist and Narrative Therapist who has worked for over 40 years with the most troubled children and youth in the children’s services sector. Ruth is the volunteer Founding Director of Under the Willows, a garden-based arts garden play summer program for children that is hosted at Lynwood Charlton Centre. Ruth is an avid supporter of community-based arts programs for these and other marginalized children and youth. Ruth has served on the Board of Directors for over 20 years.
